Pea Day!

Planting season has begun!

Today, March 17th, is what I like to call Pea Day (and yes I am Irish and I do celebrate that also). If our soil was no so damp we would be roto-tilling today. Last year we were able to till on this date but this year we have just had too much rain. When I was out yesterday I figured we would need three days of good wind and sun to make it possible.

Ohio has had 10+ inches of rain in the past 30 days. If you till your soil when it is too wet it will compact and destroy the biological and ecological integrity of the soil. This also is a result of too much tilling.

Plant your 'Cool-Season Crops' Today: Peas, lettuces, radishes, brassicas (broccoli, kale, cauliflower, collards), and spinach germinate and thrive in the lower tempera...tures of spring and will tolerate light frost. Cool-season crops can be direct-sown in your garden now!

Plans and pictures to come :o)

Schmitty Treats

I call my cat 'Madison Garden Kitty'.
Anything I bring to my bunny I have to
give a little to my cat. He loves peas,
lettuce,grass,spearmint, sticks and twigs,
carrot tops, celery tops and most of all
PEAS! When he hears me shelling peas he
comes running! When in season, he will
eat about 20 - 30 peas a day. I put them in
his bowl, I reward him with them as treats.
But he only likes fresh peas. No peas in a
can, frozen or even peas that have started
to dry on the vine are a big NO for
Schmitty.

When Madison was a baby my dad was fishing
a lot so he grew up spoiled on perch and
walleye fillets and slightly cooked farm
fresh eggs. After a few months I gradually
added a Wellness dry food. I stopped using
Wellness because he did not care for the
taste and they were beginning to add
ingredients that were questionable. Then I
tried Solid Gold's Katz-n-Flocken which is
a lamb based cat food. Madison loves it!

It has the following ingredients: Lamb, Chicken Meal, Millet, Brown Rice, Cracked Pearled Barley, Potato Protein, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols) , Ocean Fish Meal, Natural Flavor, Salmon Oil (source of DHA), Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Dried Chicory Root, Amaranth, Parsley Flakes, Spearmint, Almond Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Sesame Oil (preserved by mixed tocopherols), Yucca Schidigera Extract, Kelp, Thyme, Blueberries, Cranberries, Apples, Lentils, Quinoa, Zinc Proteinate (a chelated source of zinc), Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate (a chelated source of copper), Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, Calcium Panthothenate, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Manganous Oxide, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid

Ponies!

I have been taken out of the internet world for the past week or so. Life has been swirling around me like the fallen leaves outside. I thought I would pull out an old photo to get back in the blogging action. This is one of my favorite photos. It was taken in the Outer Banks... oh yea My Little Pony!

Seven Layer ATC

This is my 'Twisted Olive' seven layer ATC. I really love the way that olive trees twist and can become hollow in the center, almost in she shape of a double helix. This ATC was sent to South Africa :o)
